Chris Schaefer, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship trained sports medicine Orthopaedic surgeon at the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center. He specializes in both arthroscopic and open procedures of all joints including the knee, shoulder, and hip with a focus on sports related injuries. He has extensive training in fracture care as well as joint replacement of the knee, shoulder, and hip.
After finishing an undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he majored in biology, Dr. Schaefer obtained his medical degree from MU School of Medicine. Postgraduate, he completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency at MU and pursued one year of additional specialized training to complete an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. During fellowship he had the opportunity to assist as team physician for the Kentucky Wildcats as well as Georgetown University.
Outside of his work at OSMC Dr. Schaefer enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle including running, biking, and playing golf. He spends much of his time with his wife and 2 young children. On weekends in the fall he can most likely be seen at football games cheering on the Missouri Tigers and KC Chiefs.
